About the Guild
The Rocky Mountain Wa Shonaji Quilt Guild was formed in February 1994, by a group of five African American women interested in perpetuating the heritage of quilting and promoting fellowship among those in quilting. This viable professional organization represents interests in quilt making and other fiber arts from an African American perspective. It stresses education - our motto being "Each One Teach One."
We seek to promote the accomplishments and works of our members and to preserve the tradition, culture and history of quilting. We enjoy, rather than judge, each other's work. The name of the guild, "Wa Shonaji," comes from the Swahili language and means literally "people who sew." The guild name reflects both our region of the United States and our cultural heritage.
Rocky Mountain Wa Shonaji is committed to supporting and educating the local community. To this end, the Guild offers exhibits, quilting classes and lectures throughout the year. Additionally, the Guild supports giving quilts to charitable organizations.
If you have any questions about membership, workshops or exhibits, please contact Brenda Ames, President at 303-788-1340 or AKABFA@msn.com.
