Biographical Note

Born in Denver on 12 September 1895 to Henry and Odell Rothwell.

Resided in black community of Dearfield, Colorado from 1909-1917.

Fought in World War I from 1917-1918.

Relocated to Denver in 1919.

Married Arisa A. McCullough in 1921.

Spent time as a cowboy, Pullman porter, and Five Points businessman.

Scope and Content

The Charles Rothwell scrapbook contains photographs that seem to span World War I to the mid-1940s. Primarily, the photographs document Rothwell, his family members, and Denver. In addition, images from other Western cities also appear. These include, but are not limited to, Dearfield, El Paso, and Las Vegas.
