Biographical Information

Annias Bill Reeves was born in Texas and came to Denver, Colorado in 1948 to go to college. He had started college in Texas at Prairie View, but did not have enough money to finish. In Denver, he stayed with an aunt while he went to school before being drafted into the Korean War.

Reeves joined the Teamsters Union in 1959 and maintained membership until 1987. He worked in the truck repair department at Safeway where he was elected assistant steward. The Teamster Local 435 honored him with a 25-year service pin.

Reeves joined the American Legion, Wallace Simpson Post 29, in 1962. He was an active member in American Legion affairs holding both local and regional offices.

Since his retirement Reeves, has been busy with volunteer work at the Denver Medical Center (the VA Hospital) and he has been active at the Central Baptist Church of Denver as a deacon.

Scope and Content

The Annias Bill Reeves Papers (1970s-2002) include information acquired throughout his involvement in the American Legion. The collection contains photographs and newspaper clippings that reflectthe activities of the American Legion throughout the 1970s.

The Annias Bill Reeves Papers have been organized into four series: scrapbook, publications, certificates and awards, and souvenirs. The first series, scrapbook, was taken from its original scrapbook context and placed in folders in the order by which they appeared in the scrapbook. This series consists of American Legion material. It includes photographs, programs, and newspapers articles. The majority of the material in the scrapbook originates from the 1970s, however, there is material that was added in 2001.

The second series, publications, consists of several American Legion texts that pertain to the by-laws and constitution of the American Legion. The material dates from the 1970s and is arranged alphabetically.

The third series is made up of certificates and awards given to Annias B. Reeves by the American Legion. The awards and certificates date from the 1970s and 1980s. This series is arranged chronologically.

The fourth series, souvenirs, consists of miscellaneous items that Reeves kept from the American Legion. Examples of these items are a chaplain hat from Post 29 and Reeves's business cards.
