Biographical Note

Born on 24 September 1918 in Oakwood, Texas.

Decided to devote his life to the ministry at the age of twelve.

Graduated from Oakwood High School.

Earned A.B. from Sam Houston College in 1936.

Obtained B.D. degree from Gammon Theological Seminary in 1939.

Garnered an M.A. in Education from Atlanta University in 1947.

Served as Pastor of three churches in and around Forsyth, Georgia from 1937-1953.

From 1953-1959, Jackson worked as the Executive Secretary of the Board of Education of the Central West Methodist Conference in Kansas City, Missouri.

Relocated to Denver in 1959.

Headed the congregation at Scott United Methodist Church from 1959 to 1976.

Also served as Chaplain for the Colorado House of Representatives from 1963-1969.

Worked as District Superintendent of the Denver North District of the Rocky Mountain United Methodist Conference from 1976-1982.

Retired from preaching in 1985.

Died on 02 March 1986 at University Hospital in Denver. Survived by his wife, Dr. Verna Worthy Jackson, and three daughters – Mrs. Lynda Jackson-Brown, Mrs. LaVerne Jackson, and Dr. Janis H. Jackson.
