Scope and Content Note

The Cummings Collection contains eleven VHS copies, with time code, of raw footage taped for the documentary Spirits of the Rossonian . There are approximately 22 hours of footage on these duplicative tapes. (The original source tapes are mini-digital video and in the possession of Jim Cummings, the producer/director. The documentary was prepared for a class in ethnographic film at the University of Colorado-Boulder. The video was first seen at the University of Colorado on 11 May 2000; it premiered nationally at the New York International Film and Video Festival on 03 December 2000.

The tapes, for the most part, contain interviews of and performances by Charlotte Cowens, Harriet Butcher, Darrell Anderson, and Al Richardson. Cowens was a professional jazz pianist who started her career in Denver during the 1940s. Harriet Butcher currently teaches tap dancing. Darrell Anderson is a professional artist whose studio occupies the location of the former Rossonian Hotel. Al Richardson has been a businessman in the Five Points Neighborhood of Denver since the late-1940s.
